Welcome to Year 4
We have two classes - Emerald and Malachite
Our Teachers are Miss Home, Mrs Fawkes and Miss Emslie
Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Fry, Mrs Sidhu, Miss Leighton and Mrs Watkins
Year 4 is a very exciting year as children enter the Upper Phase. Building on the curiosity and enthusiasm developed in the Lower Phase, we provide children with the skills and mind-set to become independent inquisitive learners, enabling them to succeed as they move through the Upper Phase and beyond.
Our main aims in Year 4 are:
- To increase children’s self- confidence and resilience
- To help children to develop organisational skills
- To teach children how to be articulate when expressing opinions and ideas
Our three main topics that the children learn about over the year are: ‘Rampaging Romans’, ‘Incredible India’ and ‘The Groovy Greeks’. History and Geography skills are developed through these topics. Every topic starts with an exciting ‘big bang’ event, using the five senses. These include things such as: exploring cultural food, ways of life, music, dance and drama, as well as art and technology.
Every Friday, the children will receive Multiplication Masters and Spelling Homework that will need to be returned by the following Friday. Multiplication Masters will still continue as normal on Thursday mornings, so keep practising! We may also set some topic projects to complete throughout the term.
PE lessons will take place on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons, so please make sure that your child has a named PE kit in school on these days. Please ensure that your child has warm clothing to wear for their outdoor session.
If you have any questions throughout the year, then please do not hesitate to ask!
